Dental Crowns Rustington

Restore a damaged tooth with a tooth-coloured CEREC ceramic crown, usually designed, milled and fitted in around 90 minutes when suitable.

A dental crown is a cap that covers the remaining part of a natural tooth, rebuilding its shape and protecting weakened tooth structure. It may help when a tooth is broken, heavily filled or damaged by decay. At Calm & Gentle Dental Care, all our crowns are made using CEREC: ceramic restorations computer-designed, milled and fitted at our Rustington practice in one appointment when suitable.

Benefits

  • Covers and supports a weakened tooth when a filling is insufficient
  • Rebuilds the tooth's shape to help with everyday chewing
  • Tooth-coloured ceramic selected to complement your smile
  • Digital scanning helps us plan the shape and fit
  • Designed, milled and fitted in the practice using CEREC
  • Usually one crown appointment of around 1.5 hours when suitable

Is a crown the right way to repair your tooth?

Your dentist checks the remaining sound tooth, bite and gum health. Crowns can help after root canal treatment, but not every root-treated tooth needs one. A filling or an inlay or onlay may preserve more tooth where damage is limited.

Crowns or bridges: which do I need?

A crown covers and repairs an existing tooth; a bridge fills a missing-tooth gap using support beside it. If a tooth cannot be saved, a bridge, implant or denture may be considered. Our bridges are mainly tooth-coloured zirconia and take two visits, unlike a suitable one-appointment CEREC crown.

Crown price: £875 per crown

Our current CEREC crown fee is £875 per crown, as listed in the pricing guide. Your total is subject to your individual treatment plan. Additional preparation or treatment, such as a build-up or root canal if needed, may add to the cost. We explain the proposed work and fees before you decide to proceed.

Risks and looking after your crown

Preparing a tooth removes some tooth tissue and is irreversible. Sensitivity can occur afterwards; occasionally the tooth may later need root canal treatment. Crowns can chip, loosen or wear, and decay can develop at the edge. Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, clean between teeth and attend recommended reviews. Avoid biting hard objects. Tell us if you grind your teeth, as additional protection may help. Contact us if your bite feels high, pain persists or the crown becomes loose.

What to Expect

1

Assess the tooth and agree a plan

We examine the tooth, take X-rays if needed and discuss alternatives, risks and costs. An assessment or any necessary root canal treatment may be a separate appointment before crown preparation.

2

Prepare and digitally scan

Using local anaesthetic where appropriate, we shape the tooth to make room for the crown. A digital scan records the prepared tooth, neighbouring teeth and how your teeth meet.

3

Design and mill the ceramic crown

Your dentist uses the scan to design the crown on a computer. Our CEREC equipment mills the tooth-coloured ceramic restoration in the practice, ready for finishing and checking.

4

Fit, check the bite and explain aftercare

We try in the crown, check its fit and bite, make adjustments and secure it to your tooth. We explain eating, cleaning and when to contact us with any concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a crown appointment usually take?

Usually around 1.5 hours, or 90 minutes, for preparation through to fitting. Timing varies with complexity and your needs. Separate assessment, gum care or root canal treatment may be needed first, so this is not a promise that every case finishes in one visit.

Are all your crowns made using CEREC?

Yes. All crowns at our practice are made using CEREC, with ceramic computer-designed and milled in the clinic. We do not offer laboratory-made crowns as an alternative. Your dentist assesses whether the proposed crown is appropriate for your tooth.

Will I need a temporary crown?

Usually not when preparation and fitting are completed in the same CEREC appointment. If treatment cannot be completed as planned, your dentist will explain how the tooth should be protected and what further care is needed.

Does having a crown fitted hurt?

Local anaesthetic is used where appropriate to make preparation comfortable. Some tenderness or sensitivity can follow treatment. Tell us about any anxiety or discomfort during the appointment, and seek advice if pain persists or worsens afterwards.

Do I need root canal treatment before a crown?

Not automatically. A crown repairs the outside of the tooth; root canal treatment addresses infected or damaged tissue inside it. Examination and, where needed, X-rays help establish whether that treatment is necessary before a crown is fitted.

How long will my crown last?

There is no fixed lifespan or guarantee. The remaining tooth, bite, grinding, oral hygiene and regular dental care all influence how a crown performs. It may eventually need repair or replacement, even with careful maintenance.

Will the crown match my other teeth?

We select a ceramic shade and shape to complement neighbouring teeth. Your dentist discusses appearance and limitations; the result depends on the tooth, its position and the surrounding smile.
