What Do I Get at My Assessment?
Step 1: Medical History
Your medical and dental history and health is discussed to determine how these conditions may affect your dental health, including cardiac disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Step 2: Oral Hygiene
Your dentist will provide a detailed examination of where bacteria and toxins may have collected around your teeth and gums.
Step 3: Bite & Jaw
During your inspection, we will assess the occlusion (how your teeth bite teeth and move across each other) jaw-joints and discuss any related issues which may result in unwanted wear of the teeth, fractured teeth, headaches, and broken restorations.
Step 4: Oral Cancer Check
Your dentist will take the time to carry out a comprehensive oral disease examination, including cancer screening.
Step 5: Existing Restoration
We will assess the health, durability, function and life expectancy of any existing dentistry you may have.
Step 6: Intra-Oral Photography
We use an intra-oral (a camera that allows us to take pictures of the inside of your mouth) camera – you can see the images on a screen allowing the dentist to highlight any problem areas.
Step 7: X-Rays
Necessary low dose digital x-rays to check areas of tooth and bone invisible to the naked eye.
Step 8: Smile Analysis
Not everyone will need this however, if required your dentist will take time to listen to your wants and needs and talk to you about how we can improve your smile. Sometimes the smallest of changes can make a huge difference.
Step 9: Hygiene Appointment
At your hygiene appointment the oral hygienist will assess how effective your cleaning routine is, and whether or not signs of gum disease are present.
Descaling and polishing will also be carried out to remove staining and tartar and leave you with a nice bright smile!
Additionally, the practical aspects of how to clean your teeth with the use of floss and inter-dental brushes will be discussed.
Step 10: Ongoing Maintenance Program
